Saalfelden is a medium-sized town at a convenient location, not far from several large ski areas. By car or with the ski bus you can easily access Leogang (about 15 minutes), which is directly connected to the Skicircus Saalbach/Hinterglemm/Leogang with 270 km of slopes. You are also in ca. 15 minutes in Viehhofen, from where the Zell am See Xpress will take you to the Zell am See ski area. At 6 km distance you can find the village of Maria Alm and together with the villages of Mühlbach and Dienten it forms the ski area Hochkönig. This extensive ski area offers a total of 150 km of slopes. To get to the village Maria Alm, it is possible to take the free skibus or drive yourselves. There are several ski lifts in this village leading directly into the ski area. Saalfelden is initially a cross-country destination, due to its perfect location in a wide valley. Around Saalfelden / Leogang you can find a lot of trails. Other winter sports activities in the area are e.g. hiking, sledding and ice-skating.
