Ausseerland Salzkammergut is divided into two ski areas, Die Tauplitz and Loser-Altaussee.
Die Tauplitz has 43 km of slopes and can be reached by the cable car from Tauplitz or via the toll road from Bad Mitterndorf. It is possible to ski back to both villages. Beginners can practice well in the area. Advanced skiers can ski on the slopes of the Scheiderkogel, Mitterstein and Lawinenstein. Furthermore, there are cozy Almhütten to find.
The ski area Loser-Altaussee is located on the other side of the Altaussee and has 34 km of slopes. There is something for everyone here. Beginners will enjoy the wide slopes and advanced skiers will enjoy the spicy FIS race downhill and the Europa Cup slope. For snowboarders there is a fun park with many possibilities.
Both areas are a starting point for touring tours through the Dead Mountains.
The cross-country skiing network of Ausseerland Salzkammergut with 229 km of trails is a very extensive area. The area lends itself to both classical and skate style. The villages Altaussee, Bad Aussee, Bad Mitterndorf, Grundlsee, Pichl-Kainisch and Tauplitz all have nicely groomed trails with a minimum length of 5 km.
Additionally, there are beautiful trails in the area for hikers, including the new high altitude hiking trail with stunning views at the Mittersteinbahn mountain station.
