The peacefull village of Ried (572 meters altitude) is situated in the "Zillertal Mitte" and is right next to the village of Kaltenbach, from where you can reach the Hochzillertal ski area and the village of Hochfügen. Ried is well-known because of its impressive Zillertaler Höhenstrasse and is a suitable destination for families with young children.
From Ried you can ski into the Zillertal Arena (covering 143 km of slopes) by accessing the Karspitzbahn at Zell am Ziller (ca. 10 km away). From here you can ski to Gerlos and Konigsleiten! The Zillertal Superski is both valid in Hochzillertal-Hochfugen and the Zillertal Arena (and Zillertal 3000).
In the surrounding area you will find some nice hiking trails, of which a trail of 8 km along the Ziller. Cross-country skiers can find a few trails.
