Busy and lively winter sport village with challenging slopes
In the small and old village of Argentière a pleasant atmosphere can be found. The centre offers shops, hotels and bars and in the old part of the village the origins of the city and its authenticity can be identified. The village of Argentière is 10 km away from Chamonix town.
The ski area of Argentière is one of the most challenging ski areas in the world due to the degree of difficulty in slopes. This area is therefore recommended for experienced skiers, and not really suited for beginners. The ski area offers a higher snow certainty then Chamonix and is also a destination that is not very known among winter holidays yet.
Argentière is set to active (winter) sports, like mountaineering, hiking, ice skating and ice climbing. The village offers many opportunities for freeriders as well. In Argentière there are unlimited possibilities for freeriders. The area of Lognan at Argentière also has a funpark and a halfpipe.
For cross country skiers there are plenty of opportunities as well. There are blue, red and black trails in the area. They are just outside the village and are often partly sheltered in the forest and partly on an open area. Hiking is possible along the trails. Due to the low altitude the season of cross country skiing isn't very long. There is no real apres-ski found in Argentière.
