Large, cosy and sunny winter-sport village with plenty of activities
Chamonix is a cosy, old village situated at the foot of the Mont-Blanc. The ski village knows many sun hours and is located on the South. The village became known in 1924 due to its involvement as a host of the Winter Olympics.
Charmonix offers two small ski areas: Le Brévent and La Flégère. Le Brévent is located just above the village, near the centre and from the top of this mountain a choice can be made between a red and a black run. All other slopes in this area are red and blue. La Flégère (Les Praz) is situated just outside Charmonix on the left side. This area is very suitable for beginners, offering several red and blue slopes. Both areas are situated in the sun during the day, offering a day-long enjoyment of the sun.
One of the most known off-piste runs, through the Vallée Blanche (lasting 4 hours) is a must for each experienced skier. This run is 21 km long and leads from Aiguille du Midi to Chamonix and continues partly over the glacier.
The area of Chamonix offers unlimited possibilities for freeriders and also for cross-country skiers there are numerous trails available between the valley of Chamonix and Argentière. These trails are part of a network of trails and the longest is around 30 km and lead through the woods. Also in the surroundings of Chamonix there are several cross-country possibilities. The trails are also very suitable for hikers.
Good food is affordable in Chamonix and the offer in accommodation variates between affordable apartments to expensive hotels. The village also offers an indoor swimming pool, ice rank, museum, casino, cinema and bowling. Apres-ski is also one of the possibilities in Chamonix.
