Val Thorens, the highest ski resort in Europe, has everything you need for a great ski holiday: fantastic snow conditions, endless slopes, a vibrant city centre and lots of ski-in, ski-out accommodations. Situated at an altitude of 2300 metres, Val Thorens enjoys a long ski season from November to May. With 90% of the slopes above 2000 metres, the area is incredibly snow-sure. The ski area is part of Les 3 Vallées with no less than 600 km of pistes and 180 ski lifts.
But before you head into the mountains, you will of course need to arrange a ski pass. We will explain the options you have for ski passes in Val Thorens and Les 3 Vallées, so that you can make the most of your skiing holiday.
Ski pass prices for Val Thorens and the wider Les 3 Vallées area vary and depend on several factors.
If you are planning to explore the whole of Les 3 Vallées, then the ski pass for the entire ski area is the best choice. The 6-day ski pass for the entire Les 3 Vallées ski area costs €395 for adults and €323.90 for youth. This gives you access to the huge network of 600km of pistes that includes Val Thorens, Méribel, Courchevel, Les Menuires and many more villages. However, if you only want to ski around Val Thorens and Orelle, then opting for a smaller ski pass will also allow you to save some money.
Good news: If you book accommodation in Val Thorens via Chaletonline.com, the ski pass is almost always included. A ski pass included with your chalet or apartment is cheaper than buying one yourself. A 6-day ski pass is included with your ski holiday. If you want a ski pass for fewer or more days, or if you want to remove the ski pass from the booking, you can easily arrange this in your online account after making the booking.
In short, by booking your accommodation including a ski pass, you are assured of a carefree, well-organised and often cheaper ski holiday in Val Thorens!
Val Thorens - located at a height of 2300 meters - is the highest ski resort in Europe. Thanks to this impressive altitude, the village and ski area are guaranteed to have snow until the beginning of May. But that's not all: Val Thorens is part of Les Trois Vallées, the largest interconnected ski area in the world with 600 km of slopes. And around the village itself, there are already 140 km of slopes to explore with your ski pass. In short, whether you're a beginner or an advanced skier, Val Thorens is a top destination!
As the sun sets, the après-ski in Val Thorens comes to life. The French village is known for its lively après-ski and nightlife, where you can end the day with a drink and a dance. A popular après-ski hotspot is the well-known 'La Folie Douce,' located on the blue Plein Sud slope. The party starts around 3:00 PM, often with a DJ and saxophonist. The music can be heard throughout the area, drawing skiers and snowboarders from all corners for a final party on the mountain.
Val Thorens offers plenty of opportunities for adrenaline junkies. Freeriders can enjoy the vast off-piste areas, while freestylers can have a blast in the large snowpark. The park features numerous jumps and rails at various levels, allowing both beginners and advanced riders to have fun and improve their skills.
Val Thorens is not the ideal destination for cross-country skiers. There is only one trail that winds through a treeless slope, which crosses the slopes. The options for hikers are also limited, but there is an alternative: you can join a snowshoeing hike led by a guide. It’s a unique way to explore the stunning mountains of Val Thorens.
The center of Val Thorens is car-free, which contributes to the peace and enjoyment of the village. Upon arrival and departure, you can temporarily load and unload your luggage for your chalet or apartment. After that, you will need to park your car in your accommodation's parking garage (if available) or a nearby public parking lot. Please note that parking costs are approximately €70 per week.
