In the heart of the National Park Hohe Tauern, the higher valley of Rauris is situated. In the ski area Rauriser Hochalm the friendly village of Rauris is found, once known as the golden town as many prospectors in this region sought their fortune. The old houses with bay windows and arches still remind us of the days of the gold industry.
There are two lifts departing to the ski area Rauriser Hochalm; the Hochalmbahn and the Kreuzbodenbahn. The area features five ski lifts, leading to the ideal and well-prepared ski runs, situated below the tree-line and very suitable for beginners and families with children. Moreover, there are two steep drag lifts for the advanced skiers and at the top you can enjoy a beautiful landscape and a fascinating scenery over the mountain tops of the Hohe Tauern. Furthermore, there is a fun park situated in the area.
There are several double track cross-country trails in Rauris and a detailed overview of the routes is available at the tourism office. Cross-country skiers and hikers can enjoy the peace and quiet in the valleys and a detailed map of the hiking routes is also available at the tourism office. During some the evenings it is also possible to go sledding on the lit sledding runs.
