The ski region Tignes - Val d'Isère is formed by the two resorts Tignes and d’Isère. The region covers over 300 km of slopes and is therefore one of the biggest ski area of the Alps. There are several off-piste possibilities for the advanced skiers, but also for the beginner this area offers a various range of gentle runs. During the Olympics of 1992 this area also hosted several aspects.
The area d'Isère is divided over three sub-areas: Bellevarde, Solaise en Leissières. Located behind these settlements is the glacier Pissailles and is very well-visited by snowboarders. Besides skiing and snowboarding there are several activities offered in the area, such as dog sledding tours, hiking, ice-skating or ice-climbing.
The area Tignes is well-known due to its snow certainty. It is well developed, offers various pistes and is exciting for both beginners as expert skiers. The area exists out of four villages: Les Brévières, Les Boisses and Le Lac en Val Claret. In the last two villages we have a great offer in chalets and residences with apartments.
There are two different fun parks in the area, one located in La Daille and one in Tignes.
Cross-country skiers can find an easy trail at the Solaise (2700 metres altitude). You can also go touring through nature and a narrow valley. The tour starts at Le Chatelard and ends at chair lift Le Manchet. In Tignes there are cross-country trails situated on the frozen lake.
The ski area of Espace Killy has a high location and therefore very snow sure. Many slopes are even opened until the first days of May (please note: exact closing dates may vary per year!). In early May it is still possible to ski on a limited number of slopes in the Tignes area, the slopes around Val d'Isere will however be closed. An underground ski metro will bring you from Tignes to the La Grande Motte glacier, where you can ski almost all year round.
In Tignes you need to pay for parking, both covered as public parking places (about € 85.00 per car per week).
